I went to the Dr. yesterday. I have been having a few digestive problems for a few years now and for the last 6 moths they have gotten worse. I won't go into any details. So I go the Dr. and he runs all the regular blood work. he comes into the room to let me in on the results and tells me I have very high cholesterol, 245 but that isn't the worse of it my triglycerides levels are so sky high they won't even register, He gives me the run down on all the doom and gloom stories of what fate no doubt awaits me in the future he also tells me that if the levels don't improve ALLOT with in the next three months he will put me on meds. I don't really want to be on the meds so guess what I am NOT eating Chocolate , Surgar, Red meat, Bacon, Ham, Hotdogs,Cheese, Milk, Eggs, Fats, CARBS. what I get to eat is FLAX, and Oatmeal !!!!!!! yum. Don't you just hate it when you go in for one problem and come out with all kinds of other stuff. We are still running tests for the other issue hopefully that will look a little brighter.
I realy need some meal ideas that are easy and yummy. please send them my way.
dear heavens annette! you are going to wither away into skinny nothingness with all those no no's. I wish I had a million recipes on Oatmeal for you, but I don't! I'll keep an eye out for you though! ;) I hope the other thing turns out OK too!

Annette-
You will be awesome, Just being aware will help a ton! Salads at meal will help too. If I come across a good recipe I will let you know, but try and add fish once a week!

My goodness! I would be seriously hurting if I couldn't have my stuff...which I probably should not have, I know! I wish I had some great recipes for you, but I am the worst at healthy eating!

DRAG but I'm glad you found something when you went to the doctor. Much better than not knowing! I think you should go to your local health food store and quiz them for ideas. I bet they would love to help you.
I make myself lots of bean dishes and I concocted my own bean burger recipe. I think they're yummy! You're a good cook...I bet you'll come up with some tasty dishes if you keep a positive attitude.

Wow, flax seed and oatmeal, what else can you eat? I wouldn't have any clue what recipes to have you try. I have a very sensitive stomach, constantly bloated and nothing "agrees" with me (if you know what I mean).
Sorry to hear that but maybe just making "some" adjustments will make you feel better. Hope all else goes okay, when eating is such a part of our lives, it is hard to cut back and eat healthy. Let us know how you progress.

Annette,
We are going through the same thing at our house right now. My husband was just told the exact same news. I don't have any recipes yet, but I am in the search for some. I'll let you know if I come across any. We feel for you.

You are SO in luck. I have oodles of recipes with flax seed and oatmeal in them!
um, no, not really.
Sorry about the cholesterol!
Sorry about the intestinal tract...but I feel your pain there. :-)
Here's hoping for some resolution!

annette...that is such sad news! Those are all the best foods. :) Glad you know what's going on though. I'm sure just being aware will change the way you eat.
I've recently discovered flax. You can get it ground at Costco in a big tub. I put it in my cookies...you could make oatmeal cookies with splenda! :) I also have been making berry/bananna smoothies for breakfast for my family, and I add flax everytime.
Google it, you'll get lots of recipes.
Hope you start feeling better!

no oatmeal cookies for annette, unless you can make them without, um BUTTER!! I have been EXACTLY where you are babe! I did 6 months of cholesterol diet and brought my numbers down by like 30 points. I have one word for you: Marshmallows. no fat, no cholesterol, I ate them by the handful when I was craving no-no food. I never did the flax though, I prettymuch just tried to cut out fat and especially saturated fat. Call me. ;)
